Minimum r-Star Cover of Class-3 Orthogonal Polygons

چکیده
We are interested in the problem of covering simple orthogonal polygons with the minimum number of r-stars; an orthogonal polygon is an r-star if it is orthogonally convex and star-shaped. The problem has been considered by Worman and Keil who described an algorithm running in O(n 17 poly-log n) time where n is the size of the input polygon. In this paper, we consider the above problem on simple class-3 orthogonal polygons, i.e., orthogonal polygons that have dents along at most 3 different orientations. By taking advantage of geometric properties of these polygons, we give an output-sensitive O(n + k log k)-time algorithm where k is the size of a minimum r-star cover; this is the first purely geometric algorithm for this problem. Ideas in this algorithm may be generalized to yield faster algorithms for the problem on general simple orthogonal polygons. For such polygons, our algorithm implies a 2-approximation algorithm.

A Fast Algorithm for Covering Rectangular Orthogonal Polygons with a Minimum Number of r-Stars
Introduction This paper presents an algorithm for covering orthogonal polygons with minimal number of guards. This idea examines the minimum number of guards for orthogonal simple polygons (without holes) for all scenarios and can also find a rectangular area for each guards. We consider the problem of covering orthogonal polygons with a minimum number of r-stars. In each orthogonal polygon P,...
متن کاملGuarding Path Polygons with Orthogonal Visibility
We are interested in the problem of guarding simple orthogonal polygons with the minimum number of r-guards. The interior point p belongs an orthogonal polygon P is visible from r-guard g, if the minimum area rectangle contained p and q lies within P . A set of point guards in polygon P is named guard set (as denoted G) if the union of visibility areas of these point guards be equal to polygon ...

The problem of finding minimum guard covers is NP-hard for simple polygons and open for simple orthogonal polygons. Alternative definitions of visibility have been considered for orthogonal polygons. In this paper we try to determine the com...
متن کاملGuarding orthogonal art galleries with sliding cameras
Let P be an orthogonal polygon with n vertices. A sliding camera travels back and forth along an orthogonal line segment s ⊆ P corresponding to its trajectory. The camera sees a point p ∈ P if there is a point q ∈ s such that pq is a line segment normal to s that is completely contained in P . In the MinimumCardinality Sliding Cameras (MCSC) problem, the objective is to find a set S of sliding ...
متن کاملOptimizing the Minimum Vertex Guard Set on Simple Polygons via a Genetic Algorithm
The problem of minimizing the number of vertex-guards necessary to cover a given simple polygon (MINIMUM VERTEX GUARD (MVG) problem) is NP-hard. This computational complexity opens two lines of investigation: the development of algorithms that establish approximate solutions and the determination of optimal solutions for special classes of simple polygons. In this paper we follow the first line...
